4. Konfigurazioa eta instalazioa
Proper installation is critical for brake performance and safety. Refer to the detailed technical service instructions available on the official Shimano weborientazio integralerako gunea.
4.1. Brake Lever Installation (BL-M8100)
- Position the brake lever on your handlebar. The BL-M8100 features an I-SPEC EV clamp band for integrated mounting with compatible shifters and dropper post levers.
- Ensure the lever is at an ergonomic angle for comfortable reach and operation.
- Estu clamp bolt to the specified torque (refer to Shimano technical documentation). Do not overtighten.

4.2. Brake Caliper Installation (BR-M8100)
- Mount the BR-M8100 caliper to your frame or fork using the appropriate post mount adapters if necessary.
- Ensure the caliper is centered over the brake rotor. Use shims if needed to achieve proper alignment.
- Tighten the caliper mounting bolts to the specified torque.

4.3. Hydraulic Hose Connection
- Route the hydraulic hose (SM-BH90-SBM) from the brake lever to the caliper, ensuring it does not interfere with steering or suspension movement.
- Cut the hose to the correct length using a specialized hose cutter.
- Install the olive and insert pin into the hose end, then connect it to the lever and caliper using the banjo connection.
- Tighten all hose connections to the specified torque.
4.4. Brake Bleeding
After connecting the hydraulic hose, the brake system must be bled to remove any air and ensure proper function. This process involves filling the system with Shimano mineral oil and expelling air bubbles. Refer to the detailed Shimano technical service instructions for the correct bleeding procedure. A proper bleed ensures a firm and consistent lever feel.
5. Funtzionamendu-argibideak
5.1. Lever Adjustments
The BL-M8100 lever offers two main adjustments:
- Reach Adjustment: This adjusts the distance of the lever blade from the handlebar. Use the small screw located on the front of the lever body to set the lever reach to your preference.
- Free Stroke Adjustment: This adjusts the amount of lever travel before the pads engage the rotor. Use the small screw near the lever pivot to fine-tune the free stroke. Note that this primarily affects the initial lever feel and not the overall braking power.
5.2. Brake Pad Bedding-in
New brake pads and rotors require a bedding-in process to achieve optimal braking performance. This process creates an even transfer layer of pad material onto the rotor surface.
- Find a safe, open area where you can ride and brake repeatedly.
- Accelerate to a moderate speed, then apply the brakes firmly but without skidding, slowing down to a walking pace. Repeat this 10-20 times.
- Allow the brakes to cool down, then repeat the process with slightly harder braking.
- Avoid hard, sustained braking during the bedding-in period, as this can glaze the pads.
6. Mantentzea
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your brake system.
6.1. Garbiketa
- Clean the brake calipers and rotors regularly with a clean cloth and isopropyl alcohol or a dedicated disc brake cleaner.
- Avoid getting oil or grease on the brake pads or rotors, as this will severely reduce braking performance.
6.2. Balazta-patinak ordezkatzea
Inspect brake pads regularly for wear. Replace pads when the pad material is less than 0.5mm thick or if they are contaminated with oil/grease.
- Kendu gurpila.
- Remove the pad retaining pin or clip.
- Carefully pull out the old brake pads.
- Push the caliper pistons back into the caliper body using a plastic pad spreader tool.
- Insert new pads, ensuring the spring is correctly positioned.
- Reinstall the retaining pin/clip and the wheel.
- Bed-in the new pads as described in Section 5.2.
6.3. Hydraulic Fluid Check and Replacement
Shimano recommends checking your hydraulic fluid annually or if you notice a change in lever feel. Mineral oil does not absorb water like DOT fluid, but it can degrade over time. If the lever feels spongy or inconsistent, bleeding the system (Section 4.4) is often required.
7. Arazoak
| Sintoma | Kausa posiblea | Irtenbidea |
|---|---|---|
| Spongy or soft lever feel | Sistema hidraulikoko airea | Bleed the brake system (refer to Shimano technical manual). |
| Reduced braking power | Worn or contaminated brake pads/rotor; improper bedding-in | Inspect/replace pads, clean rotor, re-bed pads. |
| Brake noise (squealing, grinding) | Contaminated pads/rotor; misaligned caliper; loose bolts | Clean/replace pads/rotor, realign caliper, check torque on bolts. |
| Lever pulls to the handlebar | Excessive pad wear; air in system; low fluid level | Replace pads, bleed system, check for leaks. |
