1. Sarrera
This manual provides essential instructions for the proper use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the Apera Instruments 201DJ-C AI3115 Double-Junction pH Electrode. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the electrode to ensure accurate measurements and extend its lifespan.
The Apera Instruments 201DJ-C AI3115 Double-Junction pH Electrode is specifically designed for long-term pH testing in challenging environments. Its robust construction makes it suitable for applications involving turbid water, wastewater, pools, spas, and general environmental monitoring. The double-junction structure is engineered to minimize clogging and contamination, which are common issues in such samples.
Gogoeta garrantzitsuak: This electrode is not recommended for measurements in solutions with very low ion concentrations (e.g., deionized or distilled water), highly alkaline solutions (pH > 12), strong corrosive liquids, or for prolonged measurements in high-temperature solutions (above 60°C).
The electrode is compatible with all pH meters that utilize BNC connectors. Please note that a temperature sensor is not integrated into this electrode. For accurate automatic temperature compensation (ATC), a separate temperature sensor is required, or the temperature must be manually entered into your pH meter.

Electrode Design:
The double-junction design provides an additional barrier between the sample and the reference electrolyte, significantly reducing the risk of contamination and prolonging the electrode's life, especially in samples containing proteins, sulfides, or heavy metals.

3. Konfigurazioa
- Despaketatzea: Carefully remove the electrode from its packaging. Inspect for any visible damage.
- Prestaketa: Remove the storage bottle from the electrode tip by twisting and pulling gently. Rinse the electrode tip with distilled or deionized water. Do not wipe the glass bulb, as this can create static electricity and affect readings.
- Konexioa: Connect the BNC connector of the electrode to the corresponding BNC input on your pH meter. Ensure a secure connection.
- Temperature Sensor (if applicable): If your pH meter supports automatic temperature compensation (ATC) and you have a separate temperature sensor, connect it to your meter. Otherwise, you will need to measure the sample temperature manually and input it into the pH meter.
- Girotzea: For optimal performance, immerse the electrode in a pH 7.00 buffer solution for at least 30 minutes before initial use or after prolonged storage. This helps to rehydrate the glass membrane.
- Kalibrazioa: Calibrate your pH meter with the electrode using at least two standard buffer solutions (e.g., pH 7.00 and pH 4.00 or pH 10.00). Refer to your pH meter's instruction manual for specific calibration procedures.
4. Funtzionamendu-argibideak
- Garbitu: Before each measurement, rinse the electrode thoroughly with distilled or deionized water to remove any residual buffer or sample.
- Murgildu: Murgildu elektrodoaren punta s-n.ample solution, ensuring that the glass bulb and the junction are fully submerged. Stir the solution gently to ensure homogeneity and allow the reading to stabilize.
- Irakurri: Once the reading on your pH meter stabilizes (usually indicated by a stable icon or a consistent reading), record the pH value.
- Tenperatura-konpentsazioa: If using ATC, ensure the temperature sensor is also immersed in the sample. If manual temperature compensation is used, measure the sample temperature and input it into the pH meter before taking the pH reading.
- Erabili ondoren garbitu: After each measurement, rinse the electrode thoroughly with distilled or deionized water.
- Biltegiratzea: Place the electrode back into its storage bottle containing the appropriate storage solution. Ensure the tip is fully immersed.
5. Mantentzea
5.1 Cleaning the Electrode
- Ohiko garbiketa: Rinse the electrode with distilled or deionized water after each use.
- General Contamination: For general dirt or deposits, soak the electrode in a warm (not hot) solution of mild detergent for 15-30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with distilled water.
- Olioa/Koipea: Soak the electrode in ethanol or methanol for 15-30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with distilled water.
- Proteina-gordailuak: Soak the electrode in a 0.1% pepsin solution in 0.1M HCl for 15-30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with distilled water.
- Inorganic Deposits: Soak the electrode in 0.1M HCl or 0.1M HNO3 for 15-30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with distilled water.
After cleaning, recondition the electrode in pH 7.00 buffer for at least 30 minutes before recalibrating.
5.2 Biltegiratzea
Always store the electrode with its tip immersed in the original storage solution (3M KCl solution or pH 4 buffer with KCl). Never store the electrode dry or in distilled/deionized water, as this will dehydrate the glass membrane and shorten its lifespan.
5.3 Electrode Lifespan
The lifespan of a pH electrode is typically 1-2 years, even with proper maintenance. Factors such as frequent use, harsh samples, and high temperatures can shorten its life. Replace the electrode when it can no longer be calibrated accurately or provides unstable readings after proper cleaning and conditioning.
